Mudfish Writing Workshop
Jill Hoffman, the founding editor of Mudfish, leads this combined workshop of poetry and fiction in Tribeca, New York City. The Mudfish Writing Workshop is a great group with writers at every level, ongoing since 1990. It is sustaining, inspiring, and instructive. All writers read aloud each week, and get and give honest and constructive criticism. Mudfish editors are recruited from the workshop; best work is considered for publication in Mudfish.
Published writers include four time best-selling novelist Jennifer Belle; prize winning short story writer, poet, and novelist Stephanie Emily Dickinson; and New Yorker published poet Doug Dorph. Participants have been NYFA winners, NY Times best sellers authors, Guggenheim Fellowship winners, and Pushcart Prize winners, who have produced multiple published novels, books of poems, and memoirs.
Jill received her B.A. from Bennington College, an M.A. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. She has taught writing and literature at major universities along the East Coast including Columbia University and the Master’s Program with John Ashbery at Brooklyn College. She is the author of Jilted, a novel (Simon & Schuster, 1993); Mink Coat, poems (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, 1973); black diaries, poems (Box Turtle Press 2000), as well as a significant body of poetry and fiction. Her poems were widely published in The New Yorker, Paris Review, The New Republic, etc.
Refreshments are served, and after the workshop the evening continues at Walkers, a happening nearby pub and a New York institution. Currently the workshop meets Wednesday evenings from 7:30-11 pm. Tuition, $600 for ten sessions. (Try it once for $60.)
